Chihamba African Dance and Drum Company

  • The Chihamba African Dance and Drum Company  comprises a diverse group of dancers, each bringing their unique talents and cultural influences to the stage. From traditional African dance styles to contemporary interpretations, the troupe showcases the beauty and diversity of African dance forms with precision, grace, and authenticity.

    Through their captivating performances, the Chihamba African Dance Troupe transports audiences on a journey across the African continent, celebrating its rich tapestry of music, dance, and storytelling. With every step, drumbeat, and movement, they invite audiences to experience the spirit and vitality of African culture in all its splendor.

  • Juneteenth Scavenger Hunt in partnership with Afro-American Historical Association (11:00-4:00p.m.)

  • Petting Zoo with Charming Hill Farm (12:00-3:00p.m.)

  • Face Painting (12:00-4:00p.m.)

  • Moon Bounce & Obstacle Course (11:00-4:00p.m.)

  • Reading Time featuring Fauquier County Celebrity Readers on the hour at the Reading Tent (in front of The Open Book)

HISTORY AND EDUCATION

Join us the Afro-American Historical Association transforms the History Tent into a museum for the day. The AAHA Leadership and staff will serve as the historical center of the event with the following exhibits and interactive historical experiences for all ages.

  • Juneteenth History: Slide Show

  • AAHA: “A Day at AAHA” Slide Show, brochures, and publications by AAHA.

  • Freedom Seekers: Slide show of rewards and advertisements for the capture and return of freedom seekers, booklet, and badges from the National Park Service

  • Military: Images scrolling of service persons in our archives

  • Voters: Images of poll books from 1867 scrolling (contains over 1,100 names of Fauquier’s first voters), also hard copies on table for closer view of each district, data table of early women voters

  • Genealogy/Research – QR setup with Past Perfect Museum Software (staff member at this table) *

  • Businesses: Scrolling Advertisements from the Circuit Newspaper, copy of historical Green Book, and recently published Green Book by the NAACP

  • Story Map: Trailer – Community, Church, and School*

  • Map Center: United States Colored Troops 62nd and 65th , WWI Selective Service Men of Fauquier, and other maps Staff member at this table*
