Yauri Dalencour Dance

Location: Stage 1

Yauri Dalencour is an interdisciplinary dance artist, anthropologist, and educator based in the Washington, D.C. metro area. As the Founder and Artistic Director of Yauri Dalencour Dance, she integrates movement, visual art, and digital media to explore themes of identity, culture, and the Black family experience. Her innovative approach, termed "Ethnodanceology," combines cultural research with dance education, aiming to foster empathy and social consciousness through storytelling. With extensive training from institutions like the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and academic credentials including an MFA, MA, and Ph.D. candidacy in Interdisciplinary Studies, Yauri brings a rich blend of artistic and scholarly expertise to her work. Her choreography has been featured in various national and international venues, and she has collaborated on projects such as the Vaseline "American Reborn" campaign and the "Society’s Cage" public art installation. Founded in Baltimore, this orchestra brings the vibrant energy of Caribbean music to diverse audiences, captivating listeners with their mastery of the steelpan, a unique instrument invented in Trinidad and Tobago. The orchestra is composed of talented musicians who skillfully blend traditional Calypso, Soca, and Reggae rhythms with contemporary genres, creating a fusion that is both innovative and deeply rooted in cultural tradition.

Afro-American Historical Association of Fauquier – Soft Opening at the Juneteenth Festival** Join us for the highly anticipated soft opening of the **Afro-American Historical Association of Fauquier (AAHA) on **June 14, 2025**, during the Juneteenth Festival! This momentous occasion marks the beginning of a new chapter in preserving and celebrating the rich African American history and culture of Fauquier County. The AAHA will be welcoming the community to its new location on **Main Street, Warrenton, VA**, offering a variety of educational programs, exhibits, and resources dedicated to the history, contributions, and stories of African Americans in the region. At the soft opening, attendees will get a sneak peek of the AAHA’s exhibits, which include historical displays, oral histories, and community archives. Visitors can learn about key figures, events, and milestones that shaped the African American experience in Fauquier County and beyond. The AAHA also offers educational workshops, speaker series, and cultural events throughout the year, aimed at fostering dialogue, preserving history, and engaging the community.
